our baseball weekend recap

this weekend both alex and ben were in a baseball tournament
it started on thursday
and ended with 4 games back to back today -
9am, 10:30am, 12pm, and 1:30pm

busy
a little wet
but SO fun to watch

here is the edited version -
told mostly with pictures

ben had an extra fun day because his team was short a few players
so his friend michael got to play on their team!

and alex ...
considering he is 4
and he played 3 games in 24 hours ...
he did GREAT!
or ...
at least until the last inning ;)
BUT ... thankfully he was not alone

he had enough with baseball -
was ready to be with his friends

and ready to enjoy the BEST part about weekend tournaments ...
PIXY STICKS!!

his team had a good tournament.
as he tells everyone - his team doesn't keep track of numbers
but they had fun and noone got hurt, so it was good :)

ben's team ended up winning all of their games!!
which leaves them still undefeated!
BUT ...
it wasn't all easy!
their last game was a GREAT game - but a nail biter!

thankfully ...
ben had 2 GREAT catches

and ended the game by driving in the winning run!!

way to go, ben!

simple pleasures

it's raining ...
it's pouring ...
and
baseball got cancelled

i'm glad i'm dry
BUT ...
they don't seem to care a bit ;)

at the end of the day

no matter what happens during the day -
walking in at night
and seeing this ...



makes it all worth it :)

who needs furniture ...

and why do i buy toys ...

yes ... there are bodies inside those bins

when every need they have seems to be satisfied with simply a bin

alex speak

"OOOO ... mom!
is that a tornado siren?!
oh ... never mind. it's in africa"

"hey mom!
let's go have a water ballon fight in the front yard
and take off our shirts"
i'm sure the neighbors would LOVE that alex ;)

"hey mom!
let's go for a bike ride and go all the way around the world
and we can't forget to stop in montana"
i didn't even know that you knew montana existed! but ... sure ;)

movin' on up

this morning i sent the boys off
for ONE last day as
my favorite 2nd grader and favorite 4th grader



they waited at the bus stop ONE last time
and we will hopefully never see their jerk of a bus driver again in our lives



they did one last round of bus stop kicks
no idea how this got started but they seriously stand out there and do this - OFTEN



and THEN ...
they were on their way.

8 hours later ...
those same kids showed up



only THIS time ...
for the VERY FIRST TIME
i had a 3rd grader and a 5th grader!!



WOW ... did i REALLY just say FIFTH GRADER?!!!!
is that really possible?!?!

and did i mention that drew is just SLIGHTLY pumped about that ;)



oh ...
and did i also mention that we are now the proud owners of a light up snowman?

the boys are SO excited it is summer ...



yet ...
it is bittersweet.

they are excited for adventures ...
laziness ...
and lack of schedule ...

BUT
they are also already missing their teachers and friends.
one of the 2 even ended up under the table at the restaurant tonight -
sobbing just thinking about it :(

we were truly blessed this year.
the boys had WONDERFUL teachers
they made a lot of new friends
and the transition to a new school went PERFECTLY!

BUT for now ...
we have to say a temporary good-bye

AND ...
september will be here before we know it

AND THEN ...
i'm sure that once again
we will be back to having more fun than we know what to do with.

way to go on a great year, boys!!
i am SO proud of both of you!!

our dam field trip

although we're in the middle of a heat wave ...
which i've loving ;)
it didn't stop ben's class from taking their field trip to the dam

it did mean they spent a lot of time enjoying the air conditioned visitors center ...

but it didn't stop their excitement.
the water was crazy high and fast

and we spent most of the day outside.
we made sure they had penty to drink (and eat)

and did a lot of hanging out in the shade.

the kids got a day away from school
noone got sick from the 5 hours straight of 102 degree temps
we got to explore a beautiful park
AND
i got to spend time with my favorite 2nd grader!!

a perfect way to celebrate that there are only TWO days left!!

and what better way to celebrate
than share a popsicle with a friend ;)

ben at dinner tonight:

um ...
we may live the suburban life

track n field PART 3

SO ...
alex and his friends may not go to elementary school
and
they may not have an official field day ...
BUT ...
we didn't let that stop us

today we brought a group of his preschool friends together at the park
so they could have a track n field day OF THEIR OWN!

we decided to get it going with a BANG
and nothing explodes quite like mentos and diet coke
*and when 1 mento just isn't fun enough ...
try 5 :)

we followed it up with a 3 legged race
just have to say that alex and blake ROCKED -
neighborhood olympics here we come!!

a few water relays
using dixie cups and sponges

a sack race
which included a few moms ;)

an egg and spoon relay
with eggs that didn't seem to want to break
even when we tried!
and i SWEAR i did not boil them!

a water balloon toss

and a picnic lunch in the sun

the kids LOVED having their own olympics
and ...
i enjoyed my quiet afternoon because of how worn out alex was :)
a successful day for everyone :)
