track n field 2012

friday brought jefferson's annual track n field day

for ben and drew

and

it was a BEAUTIFUL day for it!

i was able to enjoy the entire day at school

still not feeling the greatest

BUT

a powerade in my hand

and

the best surprise of the morning by my side

the morning started with the individual events

they are allowed to choose from a list of events

and then they spend their morning

working their way through each event that they selected

 
drew's friends

the individual tug of war -
ben won all 3

the obstacle course

the running long jump

the 50m dash

the lions at the football throw

the hurdles

even alex's class got out to enjoy the day!
they didn't get to compete in any events ...
but they cheered for a few,
played outside for a while,
and then had a movie party!!


after finishing their morning events
the classes ate lunch
took a little break from the heat
and then returned for some heated classroom team events

3MC ROCKED the tug of war
1ST PLACE CHAMPIONS!!!

they also did great at the shuttle relay
but came in 3rd

5EN also fell a little short in the shuttle relay
and came in 4th

but showed that what they were lacking in speed
they had in strength
they completed dominated the tug of war
winning each heat in about 10 seconds flat
guess that's what happens when you have 1/2 a football team's
offensive line in one class ;)
WAY TO GO 5EN!!

the boys had a GREAT day
they were each really happy with how they did

 

and more importantly they had a fun day with friends

nice job, boys!!
and alex ...
next year it's your turn ...
and i can't wait!!

and wait for them to dissolve ...

because the ink doesn't dissolve??

you also now have a glimpse into our afternoons
and
 if i ever tell you i am crazy busy
trying to get home from school and get 2 kids off to baseball
you can remind me of how i am filling that time ;)

week in review

our week started out typical.
baseball.
baseball.
and more baseball.

unfortunately ...
it ended with ben and i getting sick
and
not wanting to even move -
much less blog.

SO ...
because i have lots of pictures of baseball
and
none of me and ben laying in bed watching ghostbusters

i give you ... our week in review.

first ...
a night under the lights.

 

ben getting the last 3 outs of the game
while playing first base

and a win for the stingers!

THEN ...
the bullfrog's first game.

although i have forgotten how S-L-O-W 5/6 yr old baseball is ...



alex did make things exciting with a few good hits

and by being a super cute catcher

 

 honestly ...
i have no idea if we won or if we lost

but ...
they didn't care.
so, whatevs ;)

and
FINALLY ...
ben had his 2nd game.

i couldn't be there because of alex's game
have i mentioned how much i HATE having to choose :(
but from what i hear ...
it wasn't pretty.

ben had a chance to pitch

but from what he told me
his wrist wouldn't listen to him
it kept trying to throw curve balls?!
and
so he didn't pitch for too long.
they ended up losing
BUT ...
now we have a week off
and next wednesday it's my turn to go to ben's game
so here's hoping they come ready to win!

here's to a new week ...
with lots more baseball
AND more importantly
hopefully no more stomach bug :/

testing the waters

next week marks the beginning of baseball games
SO ...
this morning ben's team scrimmaged against another team
so they could get the feeling of what a real game will feel like



ben got the opportunity to pitch an inning

i love watching him.
BUT
it isn't always easy.
today ...
he had 2 strikeouts
and a few walks
he wants to pitch
and
he's probably going to be one of the boys in the rotation
he's just working on getting consistent.
THANKFULLY
this year the kids are held to 30 pitches an inning.
this means that the innings can't go on and on
with walk after walk.
it's the perfect set up for these boys that are just learning!
it also protects the mom of the pitcher from getting TOO crazy nervous ;)




it was a fun morning

 

and we actually got through FIVE innings!!

only 2 days and then we have our first REAL game!

last night brought drew's LAST choir concert
of elementary school
E.V.E.R.



CRAZY!! 

their teacher put together a compilation of songs
about the moon
and had the kids sing, play the bells, play the drums
AND of course ...
play the recorders

it's not very often that we see these boys in dress pants ...

which would explain why they ALL wore tennis shoes with their dress pants ;)

AND ...
why i decided to use duct tape to hem up a pair of stacey's pants
rather than go buy drew a pair that would never get worn again ;)

shhhhh ....
don't tell.
BUT they all looked handsome
and they sounded great

 each event like this that passes
puts us closer and closer to middle school
and saying goodbye to jefferson.

i'm starting to think this might be harder on me than it is on him.
yikes.

there are some things in life
that a mom of boys
HAS to do ...
just once ;)




even if it's only because her husband won't
and bragging rights are SO worth it ;)
