goonies never say die

at church on sunday a clip from goonies was used. that inspired stacey.

SO ... tonight the boys had goonies night. stacey introduced them to one of the greatest movies ever. the boys were SO excited all day long! they couldn't wait! (that worked as a great bribery tool!) after dinner the movie began and they watched intently the entire time. before bed i asked their favorite parts --

DREW: when the older brother stole the little girls bike and rode it.

BEN: when they lifted one eyed willie's eye patch.

and together ... they liked the booby traps.

STACEY &I: we love chunk.

to sleep or to stand -- that is the ??

our lives just got interesting. or should i say more sleepy.

alex has figured out how to stand in his crib.

and when one can stand ... why would one just lay down and willingly sleep???

a definite don't

ok ... now typically i think jessica simpson has pretty good taste when it comes to fashion. she keeps it fairly simple and is usually pretty classy.
well ... apparently the leprachauns found her and have infiltrated the "fashion sense" part of her brain. what in the world was she thinking when she put on these pants!?! and did she think they were flattering?!? AND ... what makes it even worse!?!?! supposedly this type of pant is supposed to be coming back into style!!! we've gone from super low rise to boob holder uppers.
how NOT flattering!!
this is one fad i refuse to follow.
"if i could ... change the world " -- low rise and boot cut would remain "in" for a LONG time!

little league ... not so little it seems

i'm a bit annoyed. this is drew's first year in little league. he's done t-ball before, but this is the first "official" year. we got his schedule yesterday at practice. between practices and games he has baseball 3 days a week. every monday and wednesday night and every saturday. yes, that's right ... for the entire months of may and june drew has baseball every saturday. now saturday alone wouldn't be so bad. or monday and wednesdays alone wouldn't be so bad. but all 3 every week just seems SO excessive to me. i feel like this is a bunch of 5 and 6 year olds. do they REALLY need to be that busy?! it makes me sad to think that if this is how it is at the 5 and 6 year old level ... the 11 and 12 year olds must have SO much pressure on them!! i hate that! i hate that kids can't just play sports for fun. i hate that parents have turned playing sports into a way for them to re-live their childhood and push their kids to be something they weren't. i hate that i can't go to a game without wanting to tell some parent off because they are taking the game WAY too serious! it makes me feel so sorry for their kids!

what i really hate is that all of this pressure makes it tough for a kid to really try things out and find what sport he likes. drew loves soccer. he knows he loves soccer. so of course he's in soccer. but he also really likes baseball. we want him to decide for himself which sport he enjoys. so that's why we figured we'd let him do both this summer. but i'm starting to wonder how that's going to work.

i have a feeling it's going to be a VERY busy summer.

red flags

when i went to pick drew up at school yesterday we were talking to mrs. kucinski (his teacher) for a bit. he asked her if there were police to watch the building at night to make sure people don't come in. she said that she thought the police just kind of kept an eye on all of the places around. she asked him why. he said that he and his friends were planning something against her and so he was just curious. thankfully she knows drew. thankfully i've established enough of a relationship with her that we were able to laugh about it. thankfully i knew drew is harmless. when i asked him what they were planning he said he thought it would be funny to put some yarn up around her room to make her think the leprachauns visited her.
WHEW!

something to take note of -- look out for leprachauns.
they sure do get around. drew told me that the reason that he sometimes doesn't make the best choices is because the leprachauns have taken over his brain.

more thoughts about god

when you have a toy named god it can make certain phrases that come from the backseat rather comical. here are a few things i've heard over the past few days:

"uh oh. i just dropped god."

"MOM ... ben won't let me talk to god."

"ben!! you cannot just have god to yourself!"

"this is my god drew."

"mom can god come to target with us?"

"mom can i share god with my friends at preschool?"

"mom guess what? the baby likes god!"

god has done a great job at keeping all 3 of the boys busy. who knew that 1 happy meal toy could provide such entertainment?!

messy fun

tonight we let alex try spaghetti for the first time. he seemed to really enjoy it. i think he had more fun playing with it than eating it. but, that's ok. he had fun and got to try eating something new.

AND ... it allowed us to have an uninterrupted dinner. that's worth the mess right there!

ben and god

ben made these puppets at church. one is Jesus and one is mary. mary is lost but ben found "god" this morning and had a lot of fun with him all day. god came with us to Toys R Us and the post office today. while driving along god started yelling out the window "i can do anything! i can do anything!" THEN ... god met ben's dinosaur happy meal toy. ben decided the dinosaur's name is god too. so now while driving along we listen to conversations that god has with god. at one point he dropped the puppet and said "mom i dropped god. can you help me?!" so i picked him up and handed him to ben. he immediately stuck him out the window. i told him to be careful because it could blow away. he quickly informed me that if god blows away he'll just go right to heaven.
what was i thinking. duh.

our newest family member

no ... we did not get a dog.

this is marley. marley is my sister's new princess. (she looks like a princess, doesn't she? can't you see her in a tutu)

i'm down in chicago right now visiting. after spending a day with marley i've decided she's got the whole stressfree life thing down. if you open her crate she just rolls over and lays on her back. when you try to take her for a walk she just lays down or stands there as if to say "exercise?! me?! you're crazy." she spends a lot of her time just sitting on her pillow and playing. she is the funniest little thing. the only thing she goes running for is food. and when you do feed her it takes her all of about 30 seconds to inhale the bowl.

i'm enjoying watching marley (alex is too!!!) but ... no worries. i'm still nowhere close to buying my own.
