one of the activities that the kids could join this morning was a treasure hunt.
they were SUPER excited to do it -
so we met up with other kids at the beach

so we met up with other kids at the beach
at first we thought it was in trouble.
but then a few surfers came out of the water
to tell us that there were actually 3 turtles
and to back away.
there were 2 mating
and another there to protect the 2 while they did their business.

what we were seeing was
the female was coming to the shore
out of exhaustion
and she wouldn't if we were too close.

we watched for a while -
took some pictures -
and then decided to let the turtle be so that the kids could finish the original hunt they set out on.
-----------
i didn't know i'd be getting a lesson on turtle mating riturals today -
but was SO glad our treasure hunt led us where it did.
i am also quite glad that the real 'fun' happened out in the water
and that we didn't have to talk about any funny turtle behavior ;)
we later found out people had been watching 'one turtle ride on another turtle's back'
for almost 2 hours straight ;)
WOW!
i'd be exhausted too.
