running men and down dogs

ever since we joined the Y i have had a lot of fun trying out the different options. stacey and i both started out just running on the treadmill. then i started trying different classes. i've been doing some basic cardio classes and there's a kickboxing class that i like. but the last 2 classes that i've tried have been my favorites. and they are complete opposites. first we have latin hip hop. it is a ton of fun! they combine your basic hip hop with the latin dances -- salsa, tango, and merengue are a few. then at the end there is a freestyle time. the dancing is fun ... the music rocks ... and the energy in the room is incredible! now if i could just get stacey to go to it with me!! HA! (dancing with the stars here we come!!)

then ... tonight i decided to try a class that is a combination of tai chi, yoga, and pilates. this is obviously a polar opposite to hip hop. but i liked it just as much! it's focus was on stretching and relaxing. at the end of the hour we actually spent 6 minutes laying on the floor doing nothing but working on relaxing every single part of our body! now, that does not happen very often in my life. in fact i will venture to say it has never happened! ha ha! i love my boys. and i love the energy that they have (usually). but to have this 6 minutes -- (and the 54 minutes prior) just to tune into myself and really focus was incredible! i didn't know how i would do with something so slow. i figured i would have a million things going through my mind and it would be boring for me. but it wasn't at all. in fact i think it was more of a challenge for me to actually force myself to slow down. it was fun in a completely different way and i think that's why i liked it.

now the one class i have left to try is the line dancing class. i have no idea what to expect. it could be a bunch of old people for all i know. but i figure as long as i learn 1 dance to pull out at the next wedding i go to - it will be worth it to me!
