little league ... not so little it seems

i'm a bit annoyed. this is drew's first year in little league. he's done t-ball before, but this is the first "official" year. we got his schedule yesterday at practice. between practices and games he has baseball 3 days a week. every monday and wednesday night and every saturday. yes, that's right ... for the entire months of may and june drew has baseball every saturday. now saturday alone wouldn't be so bad. or monday and wednesdays alone wouldn't be so bad. but all 3 every week just seems SO excessive to me. i feel like this is a bunch of 5 and 6 year olds. do they REALLY need to be that busy?! it makes me sad to think that if this is how it is at the 5 and 6 year old level ... the 11 and 12 year olds must have SO much pressure on them!! i hate that! i hate that kids can't just play sports for fun. i hate that parents have turned playing sports into a way for them to re-live their childhood and push their kids to be something they weren't. i hate that i can't go to a game without wanting to tell some parent off because they are taking the game WAY too serious! it makes me feel so sorry for their kids!

what i really hate is that all of this pressure makes it tough for a kid to really try things out and find what sport he likes. drew loves soccer. he knows he loves soccer. so of course he's in soccer. but he also really likes baseball. we want him to decide for himself which sport he enjoys. so that's why we figured we'd let him do both this summer. but i'm starting to wonder how that's going to work.

i have a feeling it's going to be a VERY busy summer.

ooh - i agree. that seems like a big time commitment for little kids. YIKES! carly is trying out t-ball this summer - it's twice a week for 5 weeks. please tell me there won't be parents there that take TBALL too seriously! i am so not ready for that!
