farm field trip fun

last night ben's basketball team was talking -
for halloween some of them were taking a field trip to a bowling alley
and others were going roller skating
ben's class/5th grade class was going to the gibbs farm -
a museum of pioneer life.

i laughed thinking that hardly seemed like a fair deal
HOWEVER ...
after going on the field trip
i can honestly say that i am really glad that is where we went

it was SO interesting!

the kids LOVED it.
they listened to the stories told
and seemed to just eat up all of the information they were being given

the farm is still set up the way it originally was

there is a sod roofed house that the family first started in

and the house that they ended up building as their farm
grew and took on many workers

we learned MANY interesting facts about how they lived
how they cooked
how they got ice
that was my favorite fact i learned all day
and how at one point they survived with FIVE kids ...
in a one room house ...
YIKES!!

we got to experience life in a school house

and take a break for lunch

before learning about the dakota indians
and the role they played at the gibbs farm

if you ever have the opportunity ...
i HIGHLY recommend learning about the farm
and going there
the people working there are full of knowledge and facts
and we all felt like we left smarter than when we came!

thanks for the fun day, ben!
