feed my starving children

the current series at our church
is based around micah 6:8

one of the challenges they set up
was an opportunity to serve with
feed my starving children

they turned the lobby of our campus
into a packing place
and over the course of a week
many people took 1.5 hour shifts
to pack meals that are sent to places like haiti and nicaragua

each package contains a special protein/vitamin powder, rice, vegetables, and soy
when water is added,
it is a meal that can provide food and nutrition to areas that are really needing it

as a small group
we decided it would be fun to get our families together
and commit an hour and a half to helping these kids

along with a few other groups
we packed
114 boxes
or 24624 meals
enough to feed 67 kids for a year

it was a great experience
to do with our kids -
to show them the impact that we can have
in even a short amount of time

traveling basketball

this weekend was our tournament that puts the traveling in traveling basketball

we spent the weekend in mankato
for their annual tournament

this meant a weekend in a hotel
and
a whole lot of excited kids

it also meant a whole lot of treats ;)

even though the entire state was advised against travel
AND
our 'traveling car/my car' is without a working engine
we packed into our mazda 3
and hit the road

i will again thank God
that our kids are great travelers
because even though they had to sit 3 wide
and the trip took twice as long as it should have
they did a great job

the roads were still covered in ice

and we passed some interesting scenes along the way

a car stuck in snow on the freeway

a drift taking up half of the right lane of the highway

and a giant snowblower serving as a plow for the drifts

it was an adventure
but we were there by dinner

and had nothing to do for the rest of the night
but swim and relax by the pool

our first game wasn't until 2:20 on saturday
so we were able to wake up
enjoy their continental breakfast
and of course swim a little more ;)

our first game was against rochester

we won 40-29

our second game was against mankato

we played really well
and ended up winning 36-8

a perfect reason to celebrate
with dinner at pizza ranch

and a night hanging out at the hotel

we were headed to the championship game
bright and early sunday morning
against st peter

i was a little nervous
given that they were all up until 11 for 2 nights in a row

BUT ...
they're tough

and they have great fans ;)

peyton and drew even created a fantasy league for the game

we were down going into half

but ended up coming back
with a 22-17 win
for the championship!

1st place for two weeks in a row

looking good headed into the state tournament

good luck, 5A!
