animated inspiration

yesterday i took the boys to see kung fu panda.

now ... i didn't expect to walk away inspired.

in fact ... all i walked in hoping for was that alex would sit and not cause too much trouble.

BUT ...

i walked out with a quote that kept me thinking all day.

"yesterday is history
tomorrow is a mystery
today is a gift
and that is why it is called the present."

now i realize that isn't THAT deep of a quote. it's quite simple - and slightly cheesy.

BUT it really made me think.

as i have said before - i don't often have regrets ... so the yesterday part isn't really a problem for me. i think everything happens for a reason and so rather than regret - i learn from it and move on.

but ... the rest of it is what really made me think.
as i sit here 12 weeks pregnant it is easy for me to wonder about the next few weeks.
before alex came we miscarried twice. once at 13 weeks and once at 16 weeks.
each time we had already seen a heartbeat and as far as we knew - we had a healthy little baby.
because of this ... hitting the 12 week mark doesn't do much as far as creating peace within me.
in fact it probably does the opposite.
right now is when i start to get nervous and wonder about what tomorrow holds.

when i heard this quote - and really thought about it - i thought about how true it really is.

today is a gift.

we are happy.
we are healthy.
and we are having fun.

tomorrow is a mystery and there is absolutely nothing that i can do that will change that.
worrying won't change it.
more planning won't change it either.

it is what it is
and what will be ... will be.

all i can do is thank God for today ....
be happy for where we are at ...

AND thank God that alex lasted through the movie :)

wow, i'm impressed that you took alex! i left ryan with a sitter when we went.

garrett still talks about "master pants" when he sees someone in black comfy pants. i guess it's some reference to the black karate pants. who knows? the mind of a 3 yr old is a bit odd.

i'll be thinking & praying about you & your baby in the next few weeks :)

oh and my favorite part of the movie was the panda eating the peaches off the tree :)

Sarah,
Although we didn't lose our babies this late in the pregnancy (we will be 14 weeks on Monday), I have similar feelings EVERY single day.
What a great reminder to be thankful for today. It has been our prayer throughout this pregnancy that God would again do as He sees fit and that our hearts would be prepared for whatever that might be. That is a hard thing to pray, you know? But what other option do we really have, like you said in your post?
Tomorrow is a mystery and there is nothing we can do to change what the Lord already has planned. For some reason that gives me peace to enjoy today and wait patiently for tomorrow to arrive, hoping that all will go well, trusting that "well" is a relative term.
Love you!

Sarah, you are absolutely right. I don't have regrets either, so the past for me is the past, but too often I find myself worrying too much about stuff that hasn't even happened yet and forget to enjoy the things that are happening right now. You gave me a great outlook on today!! Thank you!! I will keep you in our thoughts and prayers.

Very well said, Sarah! I will pray for God's peace to fill your heart and mind as you WAIT for these next few weeks to pass.

Thanks for sharing, my friend! Sending hugs!

I know you wrote this post about a week ago, but know you'll be in my prayers throughout the next few weeks of your pregnancy. I totally admire you and your ability to "let go" of the situation and not to worry, but to give it to God. That's all you can do, really. "Cast all your cares on Him!"

I'm glad you enjoyed the movie and I'm TOTALLY impressed that Alex lasted the entire movie. We have yet to successfully make it through an entire movie with the girls at the theater. We've only tried it twice, but I have a feeling we won't be doing it again until Chloe is 5. :)
