ben has loved kindergarten so far.
he has a few boys in his class that he has become quick friends with.
in the past 2 weeks or so they have taken it to a new level.
they call each other on the phone.
AND ...
they set up playdates ... on their own :)
or ... well ... they try.
i volunteered at school on wednesday.
one of the little boys was telling me that he wanted ben to come over after school.
i told him he should check with his mom and that we could plan it for a different day.
he was adament that it was ok - and that his mom didn't have plans -
but i held him off :)
but then after school i went to pick up ben and his teacher said that the boys had been exchanging phone numbers during class - and giggled.
just earlier in the week he had been exchanging numbers with another of the boys :)
WELL ... sure enough ... that night ben got a call.
AND ...after about 15 minutes of REALLY RANDOM chatting
everything from the fact that we have a brown couch to starwars ...
ben hung up and said he was going to wyatt's tomorrow to play.
i ... of course ... had a few questions
did he talk to his mom ... what time ... are you serious???
he looked at me as if to say "don't worry mom ... i took care of it!"
not sure what to think i asked "did he really ask you over? and do you have all of the details?!"
i didn't want to second guess him - but - he is only 5 :)
he said "YES! i have to bring my luke skywalker guy and his mom will call you at about 4 in the morning to let you know when i should come."
i guess ... he got the one detail that was important to him
AND
he EVEN attempted to answer the question that he knew i was going to ask.
we have a little ways to go, ben -
but i bet by the time you are 6 you will have this whole social calendar planning thing down!

Too funny...
Thankfully he is still just exchanging numbers with BOYS!
Funny...Marissa does that. All of a sudden she will just hand me the phone and when I get on it is the friend's mom and neither one of us knows what is going on. It can be kind of embarrassing, but at least they don't know either. We had to have the talk about the proper way to ask permission to have friends over.
I had some kid, that apparently lives on our block, come up to me at school and tell me his phone number (like I was just suppose to remember it) and then proceeded to tell me to have Marissa call him!!
That's hilarious. And that's so Olivia this year too. A few weeks ago she and another friend made little "phone books" during their free center time.
Isn't it funny how they want to start planning their own social calendars so early?? :-) Funny stories about Ben! He and Kylie are so much alike...she is totally such a social butterfly as well!
